Condition: Better than fine; Diameter: 39mm

 

Reference: Adams & Chao PB 2-C (with rarity R5, meaning the authors estimate only between 31 and 75 examples of this variety exist); Betts 273; MH 265; MI ii 539/126

 

Notes: Porto Bello lay on the eastern Panama coast and was said to be a centre for Spanish raids on British mercantile shipping in the region. Vernon had declared in the House of Commons that he could take Porto Bello with six ships, and in this he was successful.
