Obv: bust of Rouget de Lisle right in high relief

Rev: fasces surmounted by cap of liberty in centre, first verse of La Marseillaise set to music above, other five verses to left, right, and below the fasces

Edge: Bee poinçon CUIVRE (struck 1860 – 1880)


Condition: Good very fine, reverse better; Diameter: 51mm

Notes: Rouget de Lisle (1760-1836) composed what would later be known as La Marseillaise, the national anthem of France. He died in poverty but in 1915 his remains were transferred for reburial at Les Invalides.
