The battle of Clavijo was supposed to have been fought
in 844 between Christian and Moorish armies, and that St James appeared the
evening before to the leader of the Spanish army. However scholars now
suggest it is a myth. The basilica is where St James the Apostle is buried, giving his name to the location (Santiago is
Spanish for St James). Price
