Obv: conjoined uniformed busts right of Marshalls Joffre, Manoury and Gallieni, date SEPTEMBRE 1914 in exergue

Rev: The French Republic, sword in hand, flies above French troops encouraging them forward to battle

 

Condition: Good very fine; Diameter: 68mm

Notes: The first battle of the Marne was fought from 6th to 10th September 1914, and stopped the rapid German advance on Paris. At one stage six thousand French reinforcements were rushed to the Front in Paris taxis. German and French losses were high - about half a million - while British losses numbered over twelve thousand.
