Notes: After his defeat at Waterloo, Napoleon was exiled to the British island of St Helena in the Atlantic. Living in the damp confines of Longwood House his health deteriorated and he died (officially of stomach cancer) on 5th May 1821. However there are some suspicions that he may have been slowly poisoned. He was buried on St Helena but in 1840 his remains were repatriated to Paris where they now rest in Les Invalides.
