Obv: the army, represented by two soldiers, welcomes Napoleon, RETOUR DE L’EMPEREUR MARS MDCCCXV in exergue

Rev: a crowned imperial eagle in flight from the island of Elba, carrying the cross of the Legion d’honneur

Condition: Extremely fine or nearly so; Diameter 40mm

Notes: Having been advised of the difficulties facing the government of the Fisrt Restoration, Napoleon saw his chance. He escaped Elba, landing at Golfe-Juan on 1st March 1815 with some thousand men. Soldiers flocked to him as he headed towards Paris – and so began the period known as “The Hundred Days”, ending at Waterloo.
