Having been advised of the difficulties facing the government of the Fisrt Restoration, Napoleon saw his chance. He escaped
Elba, landing at Golfe-Juan on 1st March
1815 with some thousand men. Soldiers flocked to him as he headed towards
Paris – and so began the period known as “The Hundred Days”, ending at
Waterloo.
