Rev: Union Jack around laurel, shamrock, rose and thistle, legend in field


Condition: Good very fine; Diameter: 45mm

Notes: This medal was sold by Spink & Son for two shillings each, to raise money for the Daily Mail Kipling Poem War Fund. This aimed to assist those who were widowed and orphaned as a result of the South African war. The "Gentleman in Kharki" depicted was from a painting by Richard Caton Woodville, and inspired the poem "The Absent Minded Beggar" by Rudyard Kipling.
