Notes: Astrid (1905-1935) was a Swedish princess who married Prince Leopold of Belgium (later Leopold III) in 1926. The couple were on holiday in Switzerland in 1935 when their car left the road and Astrid was killed: she had been Queen of the Belgians for just 18 months. This artist’s proof must date to her brief period as Queen. The portrait and her fashion style is particularly evocative of the period.
