Rev: HENLEY REGATTA ESTABLISHED 1839 LADIES CHALLENGE CUP in 7 lines within laurel wreath

 

 

Condition: Extremely fine, attractive; Diameter: 46mm

Notes: Henley Royal Regatta (a rowing event) takes place annually in late June and early July for five days on a straight stretch of the Thames at Henley-on-Thames. It is a grand spectator event and your cataloguer has the privilege of being a long-standing member of the Stewards’ Enclosure. The river-god figures on this medal are on either side of Henley Bridge and were sculpted in 1785 by Anne Seymour Damer [née Conway] (1749-1828), who was brought up locally in Park Place, Remenham
