Condition: Very fine, obverse pitted, reverse ex brooch mount; Diameter: 36mm

 

Notes: These medals were awarded to the first members of the Exeter Athenaeum and depict Isaac Newton who was at the time considered to be the greatest English scientist. The Athenaeum was established in Bedford Circus and was home to several local learned societies, although it only survived into the 1850s.
