George I, Coronation 1714, official bronze medal by J Croker
Obv: laureate and cuirassed bust right
Rev: the King enthroned is crowned by Britannia, date below in exergue
References: MI ii 424/9
Condition: Fine; Diameter: 34mm
Notes: The acceptable Stuart line being exhausted after Anne’s death, Parliament cast around for a new Sovereign. It settled on the (Lutheran) Elector of Hanover (George I), passing over more than 50 (Roman Catholic) Stuart descendants with a better claim to the British throne!
