Rev: VIRESQUE ACQUIRIT EUNDO (‘it gains strength as it goes’) within laurel wreath


Condition: Almost extremely fine; Diameter: 36mm

Notes: In 1813 the Dutch rose against the French occupiers with cries of ‘Oranje Boven!’ (the sense of which is ‘Orange For Ever!’), in support of the exiled House of Orange. Withers calls this a medal of the ‘One and All Society’ and states that ‘Oranje Boven’ is the name of a Dutch folk song emphasizing the links between the Netherlands and the Dutch royal family.
