Horticulture, the Horticulture Society of London established 1804, silver medal by GF Pidgeon for Rundell Bridge & Rundell, in case of issue, very rare in silver

 

 

Obv: two females offer fruit to the bust of a deity, in exergue SOC HORT LOND INST 7 MART 1804, engraved around upper edge PRESENTED TO JOHN SUDLOW ESQR DECEMBER 10TH 1819.

 

Rev: a greenhouse in a kitchen garden, tree behind, ALIENSIS MENSIBUS AESTAS above

 

 

Diameter: 69mm; Condition: Extremely fine.

Notes: the Society became the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) in 1861 and organises the annual Chelsea Flower Show. John Sudlow of Thames Ditton, Middlesex, had an apple tree named after him.
