Admiral Lord Nelson and HMS Foudroyant, medal struck from the ship's copper after she was wrecked off Blackpool in 1897, in original case of issue

 

 

Obv: bust of Horatio Nelson three-quarters left in his distinctive headdress, name and dates around

 

Rev: portside view of HMS Foudroyant, dates of her construction and wrecking in exergue


Condition: Good very fine or better; Diameter: 38mm

Notes: HMS Foudroyant served as Nelson's flagship from 1799 to 1800 following the Battle of the Nile. She had been launched at Plymouth Dock in 1798 and was taken out of service in 1892. She was wrecked by a storm while at anchor near Blackpool on 16th June 1897.
