France, Alliance Française (1898), bronze medal by Daniel Dupuis

Rev: An open book and laurels on which a cartouche engraved À Mr BURIGNAT MONTÉLIMAR (1898 scratched below) ALLIANCE FRANÇAISE above

Notes: CGMP gives this medal as 1898, whilst Maier gives it as 1894. The Alliance Française, which still exists, was founded in 1884 to disseminate French culture and language abroad. The medallist, Daniel Dupuis, came to a sticky end in his sleep at the hands of his insane wife.
