Notes: Wolseley was born in Dublin and had a long, varied and distinguished army career. He was in charge of British troops at the Battle of Tel-el-Kebir (1882) defeating Urabi Pasha. He was also in charge of the force which arrived in Khartoum in 1885, too late to save General Gordon.
