Netherlands, Peace & Commercial Treaty with Great Britain and France 1662, copper jeton

 

 

Obv:  crowned lion rampant left, holding scales and bundle of arrows; 1662 below,NONTELIS (PRIMIS BELGI SEPTEMPLICIS ARMIS) around (it was not by arrows–which were the first weapons employed by the United Provinces)

 

Rev: hat surrounded by seven crowned shields of arms of France, England, and the United Provinces, SED CONSTANT LIBRA LIBERA REGNA PARI around (but rather it was through the scales of equality that nations preserve their freedom)

 

Condition: Good very fine; Diameter: 35mm

Notes: The treaty was short-lived, for in 1665 began the Second Anglo-Dutch War.
