Notes: despite the date on the medal (1745) Woolf has shown that these medals were struck in 1748 at the time of the Treaty of Aix-la-Chapelle, which ended the Wars of the Austrian Succession. Under the terms of the Treaty the French were to expel Charles Stuart from France. Possibly Prince Charles dated these medals 1745 to revive memories of, and sympathy for, his Cause and the justness thereof.
