Anne, Peace of Utrecht 1713, silver medal by John Croker
Obv: laureate and draped bust of Anne left
Rev: Britannia standing left holding olive branch, spear and shield, farming scene to right, ships to left
References: MI ii 400/257; E 460
Condition: Extremely fine or better, carbon spot by nose; Diameter: 35mm
Notes: The Peace of Utrecht ended the War of the Spanish Succession, with Great Britain, the United Provinces (Netherlands) and Savoy opposing France and Spain. Perhaps the most lasting benefit to Great Britain has been the confirmation of Gibraltar as a British territory, following its fall to a joint British and Dutch force in 1704. This medal was struck officially, and given to members of both houses of Parliament, and other persons deemed worthy recipients.
