Obv: uniformed bust of General Sir George Higginson left, name around, dates of birth (1826) and 100th birthday (1926) in field

 

Rev: uniformed young men on parade, GORDON BOYSí HOME around, REMEMBER GORDON in exergue

 

 

Condition: Extremely fine; Diameter: 51mm

 

Edge: stamped SPECIMEN four times

Notes: General Sir George Higginson (1826-1927), born in Marlow, Buckinghamshire. He had a lengthy military career including action in the Crimean War. He was a founder of the Gordonís Boysí Home. This centenary medal was awarded annually from 1927 to the best boy in the Gordon Boys Home. The Home still exists near Woking as Gordonís School, originally founded in 1885 (in both Woking and Fareham) in memory of the late General Gordon, killed at Khartoum that year.
