Obv: laureate and cuirassed bust of Louis XV right

 

Rev: the Infanta in a four-horse chariot passes through a triumphal arch, Hymen flies above holding a torch, date in exergue

 

Condition: Extremely fine, traces of verdigris before bust, rim piercing at 12 o’clock for suspender; Diameter: 41mm

Notes: The Infanta Mariana Victoria of Spain was seven years old when she was betrothed to the eleven year old Louis XV in 1721. The following year she came to Paris as depicted on this medal. However Louis was not interested in her and they both married other spouses in due course.
